PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a very common endocrine disorder.
I used the word endocrine disorder because a lot of times it's categorized as a hormone disorder but really it's both hormone and metabolic. It affects both systems. And really it affects the endocrine system.
PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is typically diagnosed by your OBGYN or by your primary care doctor by either bloodwork or signs of elevated male hormones, irregular cycles and sometimes you see polycystic ovaries in the ultrasound.
🌸The hallmark signs of PCOS are:
irregular cycles
evidence of male hormones
polycystic ovaries in ultrasound
🚨 Other common signs of PCOS:
weight gain
acne
irregular periods
hair growth under chin or under the belly
darker hair on the arms than the typical females
dark patches along the neck
mustache starts developing
🚨Uncommon or unusual signs of PCOS:
anxiety
depression
insomnia
libido
dental disease
poor immune function
digestion issues
If you experience any of these common and unusual symptoms, you need t see your doctor and ask for bloodwork. The bloodwork will be your regular one plus the inflammation marks as well and also other labs that could be associated with insulin resistance.
