Welcome along to another BMW E39 M5 How To DIY guide.
Today we are fitting an induction kit with cold air feed andrelocating the intake air temperature sensor (IAT / AIT Mod) to where it will read true temperature for the intake instead of the heat soaked temperature from the standard location.
To do this, you will need to use a spare old MAF sensor (from an E39 M5) as we will be using the termistor from this unit for the relocation.
Doing this cures the momentary loss in power after long idling/traffic periods due to the heat soak in the engine bay. The ECU interprets this as hotter air entering the engine and retards the timing accordingly. Relocating the IAT will cure this issue.
