Cyprian was an overseer in Carthage around AD 250. He was influenced by Tertullian who lived two generations before.
Nearly all the works we have by him were letters he wrote to other leaders in the church. He lived a very Christ-like life, giving all his possessions to the poor. He was martyred for his faith.
Cyprian famously said, "[Christians] do not speak great things, but live them."

Quotations from ancient writings might be paraphrased because many of them were translated in the 1800s. I have done my best to keep this to a bare minimum.
