Thomas E. Hamilton is the Director of the Survey and Certification Group within the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). He directs the work of 7000 surveyors at the State and federal levels who perform onsite quality of care assessments for more than 200,000 providers that participate in the Medicare or Medicaid programs. This includes hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, solid organ transplant programs, rural health clinics, home health agencies, hospices, dialysis facilities, clinical laboratories, and nursing homes, as well as oversight of national accrediting organizations, such as the Joint Commission, whose accreditation CMS may accept in certifying providers for Medicare. Thomas Hamilton received a bachelor's degree from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA before conducting graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin.
