Matthew Kroenig discusses his book, "Return of the Great Power Rivalry".
Kroenig’s study responds to recent alarm about the nation’s rivalry with China and Russia by arguing against the common wisdom that sees this challenge as likely to disrupt, if not displace, America’s role as global leader. Deputy Director of the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security at the Atlantic Council, associate professor at Georgetown, and author of books including The Logic of American Nuclear Strategy, Kroenig combines social science research, political theory from the Ancients to today, and seven historical case studies of great power rivalry to show that democracies have economic, diplomatic, and military advantages over autocracies—leading him to conclude that the U.S. is in a good position to best China and Russia in a contest for world leadership.
