Automobiles were already rolling off assembly lines in Dingolfing in the Fifties at the Hans Glas GmbH plant known as the Goggomobile. In 1967, BMW AG took over the company and erected a completely new automobile factory in its place three years later. In 1973, the plant began producing BMW automobiles.
Today, this site has circa 22,000 employees and is the BMW Group's largest manufacturing facility. Vehicles of the BMW 5, 6 and 7 Series as well as M5 and M6 are built from the ground up here from the original steel plates to the completely finished automobiles. Over 1,200 vehicles leave the plant every day. In addition, body shells for the Rolls-Royce Phantom are manufactured here almost entirely by hand.
This facility also displays its know-how by producing small numbers of highest quality vehicles such as the BMW M5 or other special vehicles designed for specific purposes. The Dingolfing plant also makes chassis components and systems for all BMW assembly plants.
In addition, Dingolfing is the focal point for the worldwide supply of parts to BMW commercial organisations in over 130 countries.
