Chinese President Xi Jinping called for more cooperation with Australia when meeting with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in Beijing on Friday.
During their meeting, Xi pointed out that the current China-Australia relationship has remained a strong momentum for development and the bilateral exchanges are increasing and cooperation is getting closer.
China has always attached great importance to the Sino-Australian relations. And China would like to work together with Australia to synergize the development strategies of the two countries on the basis of mutual trust and mutual benefit, so that the win-win cooperation can be enhanced and more peoples of the two countries can be benefited, Xi said.
Xi said that the strong bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples and is conducive to the peace, stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
Xi added that both China and Australia should ensure the bilateral relations develop on the right way and respect each other's core interests, along with their major concerned issues.
Xi said he hopes the two countries will do their best to connect China's initiative of "One Road, One Belt" and the Australian blueprint of the "Developing North Australia," link China's "innovation-driven development strategy" and Australia's "National Innovation and Scientific Agenda," and earnestly implement the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The two countries should also carry out more pragmatic cooperation, and press ahead with bilateral cooperation in judicial enforcement and national defense.
According to Xi, more measures should be taken to simplify the visa procedure, so that many sectors such as tourism, education and people-to-people exchanges at local levels can be promoted.
Xi said that China attaches importance to the Australian role in the international arena and in the regional issues. China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with Australia in G20, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), East Asia Summit and other mechanisms, and in the framework of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), so that they can contribute more to promoting the regional connectivity.
In response, Malcolm Turnbull said that Xi's historic visit to Australia in 2014 greatly has enhanced the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, which is a popular topic among the Australians.
He said that Australia has full confidence in China's economic prospect and its impact on the global economy. He said he hopes the China-Australia relations will go further and the cooperation between the two countries in trade, business and innovation will be deepened.
He added that Australia is happy to exchange views and coordinate with China on the international and regional issues.
He said he is looking forward to attending the G20 Summit which will be held in the city of Hangzhou, China.
