On 24th June 2014 the Social Research Unit at Dartington and the NSPCC co-hosted a lecture in London on 'Building capacity in communities to support children and families: The importance of science'. This lecture was delivered by Professor Frank Oberklaid who shared his experiences in Australia as Director for the Centre for Community Child Health at The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne. His work is focused on the application of science to policies on children's health and development, directed towards influencing the way in which communities and public systems can collaborate to produce better child outcomes. We hope his contribution will maintain the reflection about the need for more effective policies in the early years, and for place based reform.
