Musician Shervin Hajipour has been arrested by Iranian authorities after publishing
Baraye, “Because of …” in Farsi, a song he composed entirely from tweets and Facebook posts of Iranian people in which they share why they are protesting.
Hajipour is 25, and was reportedly arrested at the end of September, days after his song was released.
Sources close to the singer said security forces forced him to delete the song that garnered millions of views on his Instagram profile when arrested.
The deleted song is now widely shared across social media in Iran and elsewhere, with people singing it in the streets while protesting, and has been described as "the anthem" of the 2022 Mahsa Amini protests.
Hajipour joins a long list of journalists, activists, and artists who have been imprisoned since the anti-government protests erupted in Iran in September.
