Australia’s peak mining lobby, Minerals Council of Australia, has released a road map to cut carbon emissions at mining sites. The council wants to use clean energy and electric vehicles at mines across the country, reports The West Australian. The road map is expected to help mining companies compete with competitors and also keeping in mind concerns on climate change. An independent advisory panel will be set up to mentor it on the best way to decarbonize. In 2016, Australia signed the Paris Agreement, a global deal that seeks to combat climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Australia promised to reduce its emissions by 26 to 28 percent from the 2005 level by 2030. Australia outperformed its first target under the Kyoto Protocol, it reduced emissions by 5 percent below 2000 levels by 2020.
