This area is far from a slum. The fact is that this place is the Kampung Baru area or New Village, occupying 4 square meters. km, this is an enclave in the center of Kuala Lumpur - one of the most expensive plots of land in the capital, its value is estimated at 1 billion dollars.

But at the same time, the main buildings here are traditional wooden Malay houses; sometimes there are concrete buildings, but not higher than two floors. Chickens and goats walk along the streets, there are many cafes like eateries under awnings and street hairdressers.
Why is there a village, and not a modern district, on such expensive land, in the very center of the capital of Malaysia?

And all because this land is privately owned by the oldest Malay people, and the elders have been refusing developers for many years because they want to preserve their traditional way of life.

This land was allocated to the Malays in 1899 by the then Sultan to allow them to maintain their rural lifestyle within the city. In 1950, the area was officially registered as the Malayan Agricultural Settlement. And since then, the population of Kampung Bahru has opposed modern development in their area. And the authorities cannot do anything - it is impossible to demolish this area and build something modern here.
