On the weekend of 26th - 28th June 2015 the North Yorkshire Moors Railway staged a three day event the "Awesome Seventies Diesel Gala". there were supposed to be several visiting locomotives but 47596 and 20189 arrived with certificate issues on the safety of their running so had to be withdrawn from use. Another locomotive was unavailable due to non completion in time of work being done on it, class 37 (D6757). However locomotives that did make an appearance were heavily utilised on a quite busy daily schedule. classes 08, 20, 25, 31, 37, 45, class 101 DMU were represented and also 2 BR Standard steam locomotives. A large display of static locomotives were able to be seen and photographed on the depot at Grosmont for the duration and the weather was particularly kind most of the time. All ran rather well apart from a passenger needing urgent medical aid whils't on a Pickering to Grosmont service on the Friday (Hauled by 45060) and he was taken away to Hospital by Ambulance from Levisham station, I am sure you are all with me and wish him a speedy recovery and able to complete his journey at a later date. Trains were slightly disrupted for a while but the signallers and crews managed to get things more or less back to schedule. Over the 3 day period due to the shortfall of traction locomotives did not run to their allocated services, which to me made it more exciting as I loved the element of surprise as to see what was on the front (or rear). The railways resident "Rat" D7628 made runs from Whitby to Goathland and even a run to Battersby on the Saturday. Steam locomotives 75029 and 76079 made appearances on the weekend. Other attractions included a 1970s car exhibition in the car park at Goathland station and when I visited there were only a few on show as it was later in the day but I saw 2 Triumph "Stags" and a Mini Clubman Estate. At Levisham on the Saturday and Sunday patrons were treated to 1970s rock group tribute band "The Glamned" and the very talented "Leo Sayer" lookalike comical solo artist Monty Scott who kept many amused especially those in the "Beer Tent". May the NYMR continue to put on these superb venues and many many thanks to all those organisers, loco owners and preservationists who make these possible. Special thanks to Monty Scott and The Glamned for their kind permission in the use of their performances in this compilation. This compilation due to the length has been made into 2 parts, firstly a look at the events from Whitby to Pickering including the music at Levisham Station and the 2nd part in the reverse direction with a quick photo shoot of the car exhibits at Goathland Station.
