Vintage Children's Stories: Raggedy Ann and Andy: Raggedy Ann and the Painter by Johnny Gruelle
In Raggedy Ann and the Painter, the dolls are shoved into a closet to keep them clean from the painters. However, a young painter found Raggedy Ann and started throwing her up in the air. Unfortunately, the young painter missed her on one of his throws, and she landed in the paint. He tried to reassure Raggedy Ann's mistress that if he took her home he would clean her up.
While at the young painter's home, Raggedy Ann was given to the painter's mom, who cleaned her thoroughly, stuffing and all. She also placed a candy heart that said "I love you" on it in Raggedy Ann before she sewed her up again. When Raggedy Ann went back home, she let all the dolls feel her new candy heart.
