The Washington Institute honored General John Allen (Ret.) with its 2016 Scholar-Statesman Award. Adm. Allen is the former commander of forces in Afghanistan and served as President Obama’s first special envoy for the coalition to defeat the Islamic State. This tribute video recounts Gen. Allen’s distinguished career in public service and includes interviews with Leon Panetta, the former Defense Secretary and CIA Director; Michele Flournoy, former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy; and Admiral James Stavridis (Ret.), his former Naval Academy classmate and fellow Scholar-Statesman. Gen. Allen and Adm. Stavridis were honored at a ceremony in New York on November 29th, 2016.
