In the late 90s, NASCAR announced a brand new 1.5 mile Speedway in Joliet, just under an hour away from the heart of Chicago, called Chicagoland Speedway. But less than two decades after the track hosted its first race in 2001, Chicagoland Speedway was booted off the schedule and appears that it may never make a return. What happened to the speedway? How did it fail? How did it go from running the Cup series, truck series, Xfinity series, and Indycar- to nearly abandoned entirely?
