Before the release of Despicable Me 4, an alternate story was taking place between writers and studio exectives. The story would have taken a larger focus at past villains all looking to take revenge on Gru.

Unfortunately as it happens in the world of movies, many things stood in the way of making the original story happen and rewrites occured giving us this version in this movie.
