Is an operation in which one takes one's own vessel of the patient (usually this is the internal thoracic artery, the site of the saphenous vein of the leg) and ligated to the coronary artery above and below the level of constriction. The goal of aortocoronary bypass surgery is to improve blood flow to the heart muscle.
