Toll-like receptors, and their role in inflammation as part of innate immunity. Toll-like receptor 4 or TLR4 appears to be a very good binding partner of the spike protein. TLR4s are activated by binding to the spike protein, causing inflammation of tissues that are rich in such receptors, such as the heart.
