Lata Mangeshkar's name is not only synonymous but itself defines music in many ways. The special timbre, extraordinary range and forever-adolescent texture of her voice, the diversity in her singing and a remarkable ability to bring out the nuances of a song while maintaining the Sur and Taal in perfect tandem, made her dominate popular imagination for several decades.

On the occasion of Lataji's 90th birthday, Shagota Music Academy, as a tribute to the living legend, is proud to present a cover comprising of 11 of the nightingale's most memorable melodies, spanning a period of 6 decades from 1950s to 2000s.

The songs have been chosen with utmost care, looking at various aspects, such as - the era covered (3 generations of music lovers), the emotions depicted (from haunting to sublime, from love to longing), the popularity index (every song is a chart-buster of that particular decade) and above all ensuring that the songs are encased in a cocoon of mellifluous harmony.

We have also endeavored to depict these melodies through everyday journeys of the common public, of whose life Lataji has become an integral part.
