So our topic for today is -
History of posh laws.
It all started in the 1990s When a woman named Bhanwari Devi was working as an Anganwadi worker, very close to a village in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Her main job was to prevent child marriages in the area by going to such events and forcing them to stop such an awful act.
The landlords of the garjar community, who blindly believed in child marriage were furious and wanted to teach her a lesson. In order to do that they brutally gang-raped her in front of her own husband.
After hearing about this incident a few of the NGOs got together and put up a case in the honorable supreme court. That is when the “Vishskha Guidelines” were issued to handle sexual harassment in the workplace.
Later in 2013 the PoSH Laws were formulated, which superseded the “Vishakha Guidelines”.
And this is how PoSH Laws came to be the lifesaving tools against Sexual harassment they are today.
