Julia Hartley Brewer has challenged Labour MP Siobhain McDonagh to confirm whether she believes a woman can have a penis.
It comes as Sir Keir Starmer's continued to grapple with Labour's position on trans rights.
Asked about trans athletes and the success of Lia Thomas, a trans woman who won the 500-yard freestyle title at the women’s NCAA championships, the Labour leader said it is for “sporting bodies to decide for themselves” who can and cannot be included in events.
Speaking to transwoman Miranda Yardley, Julia said: "I really think it's worrying if a man can't answer a question about whether a woman has a penis".
Labour frontbenchers Yvette Cooper and Anneliese Dodds have also struggled to answer questions on the issue this month.
Shadow home secretary Ms Cooper refused three times to define what a woman is and told Times Radio she was “not going to get into rabbit holes on this”.
