In the summer of 2013, CCHRC installed the Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) system to replace an oil-fired boiler that heated part of the building. In the lower 48, approximately 50,000 GSHPs are installed each year while adoption in Alaska remains limited.
CCHRC and UAF researchers are testing the system in a sub-arctic climate to determine whether current technology can yield reliable and economical space heating solutions.
This video follows a ground loop being installed in June 2013.
