U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday that fully vaccinated travellers arriving in England starting on Feb. 11 would no longer be required to take a COVID-19 test on day two following their arrival, effectively scrapping any need for testing for those double-dosed before or after arriving in the country.
British Transport Secretary Grant Shapps provided more details in the House of Commons, saying those with two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine, or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson shot, would be accepted as fully vaccinated. However, he added they would be reviewing measures for those who do not qualify as fully vaccinated and this group would no longer need to do a day eight COVID-19 test or self-isolate.
Shapps also advised that the country is working towards changing its response to COVID-19 variants, including replacing the "Manage Quarantine" system and moving away from "blanket border measures" to a "more sophisticated, targeted global surveillance system."
