Good evening everyone,
Welcome to episode 2 of the Avocado insider series with your host Harshit Godha. In this video, we continue where we left off from the episode one. In this episode, Danny Stern from Netafim Israel discusses about the climatic requirements for avocado.

We are expecting that since both Israel and India are in Northern hemisphere, the phenology of avocado plants should be similar.

In Israel, the phenology is like this -

Flowering : February-April
Fruit set : March -April
Fruit development : April-June
Fruit growth : June-Nov according to variety
Active Vegetative period : Feb-Sep/Oct.

However, in Ahmednagar, Maharshtra we are seeing Israeli avocado plants flowering in January itself. I have a special guest appearance in this video, Mr. Deepak shows you his garden where Pinkerton is already getting fruit set, while Ettinger, Sharwill and Lamb Hass are at the flowering stage. He says that fruit set ends in February.

Deepak ji has had best yields in Pinkerton in Ahmednagar, Maharshtra. So for avocado farming in Maharshtra, I suggest people should go for Pinkerton Avocado variety along with some Ettinger and Reed. If the temperature doesn't go above 35, only then you should go for Hass.
