The FSA Loan department, through the USDA, provides opportunities for borrowers to purchase production land with little to no down payment.
Geared toward underprivileged and first-time farmer/ beginning farmers, FSA offers three programs that your local lender can help you navigate:
1-FSA Guaranteed loan- up to 95% loan (5% down payment) applied for by your bank, no additional paperwork for you.
2-FSA 50/50 loan- You apply through your local ag lender and through the FSA Directly for 50% of the purchase price through each (0% down).
3-FSA 50/45/5 loan- You apply through your local ag lender for 50% and through the FSA Directly for 45% of the purchase price, 5% down payment from the borrower, you!
Through these avenues a worthy borrower with a solid business plan can obtain and thrive on their own small farm!
