Some men spend their weekends watching football. On the Island of Batam (not far from Singapore) we experienced a cultural event that is not often seen by most tourist that visit Indonesia. . Training the birds to sing on demand takes months and even years of preparation. The prizes or very good (scooters, thousands of dollars, trophies, etc.). Nico (Wiwi's cousin who is a bit of a celebrity in these competitions) took us to experience the singing bird competition. I even got to enter one of Nico's birds and compete!
