Although Vijayanagara emperor Krishnadevaraya said the aforementioned lines in the 16th century, it took post-independent India over six decades to accord 'classical status' to Telugu. But better late, than never, believe Telugus all around the world, who are particularly excited about this year's Telugu Prapancha Mahasabhalu — 2017, (World Telugu Conference), which gets underway today at LB Stadium, Hyderabad. After all, this is the first Telugu conference after the language was accorded 'classical' status by the Union Government and the first conference which is being held by the Telangana government, naturally with a Telangana-centric approach to it. "I love Telugu language immensely; but hitherto, the contribution of Telangana to Telugu language and culture was always given short shrift. This time though, I have travelled all the way from the US for the conference as I know that my region would get its due prominence," says Nyandeep Reddy, a techie from Karimnagar, based in Texas, USA. Nyandeep is one of the over 7,000 delegates who will be attending the event this year and the city looks all geared up to roll out a red carpet welcome to all the dignitaries and participants. All the roads leading to LB Stadium are decked up for inaugural ceremony of the prestigious conference, with more than a 100 hoardings greeting and welcoming the delegates and visitors. "We have been working round the clock to have everything ready for the event. We are absolutely confident of making this a huge success. The registration fee for delegates from Telangana is `100, `500 for those from other States and `1000 for delegates from other countries," says Nandini Sidda Reddy, Chairman, Telangana Sahitya Academy.
