Alabama catcher Sam Praytor was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft on Monday. Praytor, a Helena native, went with the No. 179 overall pick in the sixth round. He joins teammates Peyton Wilson, Dylan Smith and Chase Lee as Alabama players drafted Monday. Praytor, a fourth-year junior, was a three-year starter for the Crimson Tide. He batted .277/.375/.531 with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs in 2021, earning first-team All-SEC honors. Alabama also had a key signee, Wisconsin high school shortstop Noah Miller, drafted on Sunday. Miller went with the No. 36 overall pick to the Minnesota Twins in the “Competitive Balance A” round between Rounds 1-2. The No. 164 overall pick carries with it a recommended signing bonus of $274,800.
