Rote | Afghan Sweet Bread |
INGREDIENTS:
Yeast mixture:
- Yeast 1tsp
- Sugar 1/2tsp
- Water 1/2cup
Dough:
- Eggs 3
- Veg Oil 1cup
- Milk 1cup
- Sugar 2cups
- Salt 1tsp
- Cardamom powder 1tsp
- Butter 2 tbsp
- Flour 71/2 cups
- Baking powder 2tbsp
Egg mixture:
- Egg yolk 2
- Milk 3tbsp
Step 1
- In a bowl add yeast, sugar, and water. Mix well and cover for 5 mins.
Step 2
- In a large bowl add eggs, oil, milk, sugar, salt, cardamom powder, baking powder, butter, and the yeast mixture. Mix well.
- Slowly add the flour to the mixture. Mix and knead the dough. Cover and let it rest for at least an hr.
- Divide the dough into two big pieces.
- Place dough on a parchment paper. Start flattening the dough with your hands and a rolling pin.
- Create a design.
- Mix egg yolk with 2-3 tbsp of milk. Brush it over the dough. Sprinkle sesame and black seeds.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bake for 20 mins.
