24.6.87 & said the move had 'surprised the Jewish world'. Foreign
LN123984 Ministry spokesman Ehud Gol said 'we wonder what were his
motives & we condemn the decision'. The Vatican said Waldheim
would pay an official visit on June 25, including a meeting
with the Pope. A small demonstration of prominent Israelis
marched on the Vatican office in Jerusalem protesting against
the decision.
