Wild bodycam video shows a robbery suspect jumping from the roof of a building in an attempt to escape police.
Los Angeles police say Jeffrey Askew and three other men entered an apartment, bound and gagged the victim and stole the keys to his vehicle.
After he survived the jump, officers found Askew on a cement walkway where he reached into his front waistband and removed what officers believed to be a firearm — but was later determined to be a hammer.
Askew appeared to point the object in the officers’ direction, resulting in shots fired by an officer. He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition, according to police.
