The first approach is banjo-like down picking with fiddle-like double stops and unisons. The second approach involves playing the melody and the strumming at the same time - the 'melody inside chord' technique. The soprano uke (a Pete Howlett 'Marmite' model made of Koa) is tuned eAEA - the higher Tennessee tuning.
