BARTLETT, Texas (KWTX) - The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is preparing to reopen the Bartlett prison facility as the state’s first ‘Innovation’ Unit, promising inmates a future in the workforce and promising the city of Bartlett infrastructure and economic improvements.
“What we want to do is make sure that we have all the programs that we need to help the incarcerated population return to the public,” Senior Warden at the Bartlett Unit, Lorie Larson, said. “We want to make sure that they have all the tools that we can offer within the agency to make sure that they are successful.”
While inmates inside the prison facility are working to get their second chance, some Bartlett residents and business owners are hoping the facility reopening will bring a second chance to their community.
“It would bring extra people into town,” Emily Kruse, who is the owner of Red & White Grocery in Bartlett.
