Another great giftmas present this year, set 21309 the Apollo 11 Saturn V.
Margot was particularly interested in this one because of all the stickie-outie parts.
It was a lot of fun putting this together and learning about how the model is structured. I had initially thought it would be dull and straight forward, since it's basically just a canister, but that's not the case.
The model has an internal structure that to which the exterior attaches in a way that provides a kind of seamless shell and it was fascinating to put it together.
The really neat part is that the lunar module fits inside, just like real life! Makes me wish it came with transparent cone pieces so I could display it intact, but that's okay.
I got this with my GoPro Hero 3+ stuck to the window using the suction cup mount and the extender arm from the jaws clamp to provide some separation from the glass. It worked quite well for an overhead angle.
I captured one frame every 10 seconds and deleted all the frames where I looked directly at the camera to check the battery life and ensure it was still recording. I then exported the whole timelapse as a single video clip and re-imported it to crop the image and slowly zoom out with the progression of the model.
The audio is actual audio from the Apollo 11 mission downloaded from the Apollo 11 Lunar Surface Journal website ([ Ссылка ]) and NASA's Apollo 11 Audio Highlights ([ Ссылка ]).
