Peter Englund, the Permanent Secretary of the Swedish Academy has announced the winner - first in Swedish and then in English.

There are a number of best-selling authors nominated this year, but the final shortlist is always kept a secret - and the Nobel committee has picked several little-known authors over the years.
The prize money is 8 million Swedish krona - more than 900 thousand euros.
