Fixing an intermittent starting issue I've been having with my 22RE. In this video I fix the no start issue by rewiring the starter relay. I also cleaned and sanded the contacts in the starter relay itself.
Lately my 1988 Toyota Pickup (probably affects my 4Runner too), has been having a no-start issue where the relay clicks and nothing happens. I started getting worried that this would eventually leave me stranded on a trail. I started digging deeper into the cause and apparently there's a wiring flaw on these early trucks and 4runners (1986 - 1988) which causes high current to pass through the contacts of the ignition switch. What happens is the solenoid doesn't get enough voltage. Luckily, someone else figured this out and all you have to do to fix it is run one of the relay wires to your battery positive (12V).
