Kataragama Kovil is a place worshipped for many Lankans. It's actually safe to say that, everyone visits this holy ground, despite their religious beliefs. People of various religions, Buddhist, Hindus, Catholics and even the Muslims find common ground here at Kataragama.
The Kawadi Dance for god Kataragama is a sacred, devotional act. By hiring a band on-site, devotees start their dancing to please god Kataragama. The tune the band plays to is a famous melody related to god Kataragama at the Kataragama kovil premises. Even a famous Sri Lankan musician produced a complete song by the title "Kandha Suridini Obe" with the same melody.
