Today we have a real nostalgia trip for you! Back on the original Xbox there were some real awesome, exclusive games and Whacked was one of them. It was one of the few games that supported Xbox Live when it launched and was basically a multiplayer party game where you brawled against others.
The whole setup is played out like a whackey tv show where you face off in various challenges like King of the Hill, Dodgeball Matches, Battle Royales and more.
The whole art style is really nostalgic to me as it just oozes that early 2000's atmosphere. Many other games had this same vibe with games like Blinx, Kung Fu Chaos and Toejam & Earl.
There's a lot of cool characters to choose from and I chose character Lucy who definitely stands out the most. She is voiced by Tara Strong who also voiced Harley Quinn. Now the singleplayer campaign is actually pretty lengthy as you take on 37 challengs in order to complete it. However, I do feel they could have made the game to where you could change characters during the campaign. Though I liked Lucy it would have been cool to also get to play as others and to have the same character for 37 missions is a bit repetitive. Also the later challenges do get a bit annoying as they just up the difficulty by having you collect more items in order to complete the levels.
In the first few rounds you only have to collect 50 stars in some levels, but by the end that number becomes 200 and levels take really long because of that.
I was surprised to find out that this game is actually backwards compatible on the Xbox 360 which made it very easy to play and record. There are a few graphics glitches in two levels, but other than that the game ran really smooth.
I loved my nostalgic trip and this brought me back to when I was a kid. It makes me curious what other Xbox classics we can archive on the channel.
