Packed with history and symbolism, Pisanki isn’t about just decorating the eggs. It has become an expression of Polish culture and identity.

Pisanki comes from the word pisac, which means to write. In the week leading up to Easter, eggs are dyed and decorated in bright colors using a variety of techniques. The wax-resist method called Batik has become quite popular.

We visited Maria Ostrowska, a folk artist in Skaryszew, Poland who has been working on decorating Easter eggs and other art forms for 46 years.
