A major magnitude 7.1 earthquake just struck a portion of Tibet within southern China, causing damage to more than 1,000 structures. However, this earthquake was strangely not caused by the ongoing tectonic plate collision, as instead the normal fault which generated the earthquake runs perpendicular to this boundary. This video will discuss why this normal fault ruptured, the possible damage estimates, and will discuss the aftershocks which are likely to happen next.
