If you know me, it's no secret the KTM 690 platform is my favorite motorcycle by the KTM group. This machine has amazed since I took my first test ride a few years ago. It's a dirtbike, dual-sport and adventure motorcycle wrapped all in one package. With a few different sets, accessories or adjustments you can attack double-track trails, dual-sport, pound out highway miles or go around the world. There aren't many other bikes I can think of that can handle all of those jobs.
The real trick behind the 690 is the rear tank. This allows the front of the motorcycle and cockpit area to feel nearly as slim as a regular dirtbike. The front XPLOR forks are the same forks found on the EXC and XCW dirtbike line, and are amazingly capable. Another popular feature is the 6000 mile oil change interval.
There were some rumors this year that the KTM 690 and Husky 701 might be discontinued and we may be left with only the new GasGas ES700 and SM700. We know there is some push to get rid of the big singles at some point, but thankfully that is not the case yet. This year we have the KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas line. Take a closer look!
