It's end October and soon there will be the harvest time for our olives This small piece of land, about 300 mt away from my house, was bought by my father Alfredo in the year 80s. We were living in a flat on the 4th floor of a building but he was very passionate about nature & animals. He was a hunter and he had several dogs that were living in an open garage of the building, barking and disturbing neighbors. It was time to look for something in nature, leave the town, and built a house for our family. He bought the house and this small piece of land too where previously there was a vineyard. He was very passionate about everything that was involving agriculture & traditions making red wine, Rose' wine, white wine and Vinsanto for personal use and for his best friends. Later in years came the exigence to have something much more manageable than a vineyard so he decided to plant olive trees there. The plants, still very young suffered in years hotness and big snowfalls, and then depending on the weather, the harvest is good or less good. Three years ago, all the trees in my area were infested by the "mosca" ( in English "fly") a parasite that killed all our lovely olives letting them falling down in early September. Last year we had really a small harvest as was a terribly hot summer and the sun fried the olives! We now cross the fingers for this year to have our gold for the Bruschetta.
