Brownsea Island is an iconic place within Poole Harbour on the Dorset Coast. The island is partly owned and managed by the National Trust and Dorset Wildlife Trust with a ferry service (fee) taking you across to the island. On my visit to this stunning place I headed over to the Dorset Wildlife Trust reserve first, taking in the numerous hides that overlook the vast lagoon which is always filled with many species of birds including Spoonbills, Greenshank and Kingfishers. We even got to see some of the Bournemouth Air Show!
After spending a few hours in the nature reserve we explored half of the National Trust side, visiting the old Vinery and getting n opportunity to spot some stunning and incredibly rare Red Squirrels that the island is famous for! Once we took in the breath-taking view over Poole Harbour we got the ferry back to Sandbanks .
