In this Group A clash on Day 2 of UTS Los Angeles, Taylor “The Hotshot” Fritz took on Diego “El Peque” Schwartzman. With a spot in the Final 4 on the line for the American if he won, a focused Fritz came out firing from the first ball in this match.
Winning the first quarter 18-11, it was clear that The Hotshot had woken up on a different side of the bed today, and meant business at UTS Los Angeles.
But El Peque never gives up without a fight, which is exactly what he brought to Taylor Fritz, playing supreme tennis to claim the next two quarters by dominant margins, 17-10 and 19-6. Just as it looked like Fritz might have let his Final 4 aspirations slip through his fingers, The Hotshot found his mojo once more.
A 19-6 quarter from Fritz levelled the match up, forcing sudden death between The Hotshot and El Peque. Schwartzman won the opening point and looked like he would deal a knockout blow to his opponent. But it wasn’t to be, as Fritz won back-to-back points, claiming the match at the death and booking his spot in the Final 4.
