Singapore Airlines announced on Tuesday, that Vistara will be merged with Tata Group-owned Air India.
Tata Group owns a 51 percent stake in Vistara, and the remaining 49 percent is with Singapore Airlines (SIA).
''This would give Singapore Airlines a 25.1 percent stake in an enlarged Air India group with a significant presence in all key market segments. Singapore Airlines and Tata aim to complete the merger by March 2024, subject to regulatory approvals,''
Vistara, which is now the country's second largest airline in terms of domestic market share, began operations on January 9, 2015, from Delhi to Mumbai.
In October 2022, Vistara had a market share of 9.2 percent.
At present, Vistara connects 43 domestic and overseas destinations and operates more than 260 flights daily. It has a fleet of 54 aircraft and close to 4,500 employees.
Since it acquired Air India and its low-cost international arm, Air India Express, from the Union Government in January this year, Tata Sons has been working to consolidate all their airline businesses into one group, including their joint venture with AirAsia Berhad in AirAsia India.
