Ham Tin Beach is located around the Sai Kung Country Park and is well-known for its clear waters and powdery sand. It is also one of the four main beaches that can be accessed around the area along with Sai Wan, Tai Wan, and Tung Wan. This place is a convenient campsite provided there are public facilities such as toilets and running water, as well as a restaurant that can provide for your needs (including tents, sleeping bags, and even firewood!). Oh, did I mention that this area is one of the rare spots in Hong Kong where you can go stargazing?
There are a few options going to Ham Tin Beach:
1. Hire a speedboat service from Sai Kung town and back, but it is contingent on the waves for a specific day.
2. Do a 1hr hike from Sai Wan Pavilion, that is accessible via minibus or taxi from Sai Kung town. The trail from the pavilion is well-paved with declining altitude with a few slopes, so it is easier to get to the beach than to go back. Rest assured, it is worth it!
3. Pass through Maclehose Trail Stage 2 going to the beach from Pak Tam Au for 2hrs.
