Mediterranean plants evoke warmth and sunshine, with enticing aromatic foliage and the heady romance of summer flowers along with drought tolerance and low maintenance needs. Many are evergreen, offering soothing year-round green, grey and silver foliage as well as vital winter protection for wildlife. But how do they fare in a non-native climate through a cold and exceptionally wet UK Winter? To find out, we visited the atmospheric Mediterranean Garden and charming Duke’s Garden at Royal Botanic Gardens Kew in London on a frosty January day.
