A Little Wisdom Helps You Become Smarter !
Here are some skills for catching snakehead fish in the silt with very little water :
Preparation of tools
- Fishing spear : It is recommended to choose a three-pronged or five-pronged fishing spear. The tips of the prongs should be sharp. The length can be chosen according to the actual situation. Generally, a length of 2 - 3 meters is more appropriate, which is convenient for spearing the snakehead fish in the silt while keeping a certain distance.
- Dip net : The diameter of the net mouth should be 50 - 60 centimeters, and the depth should be 40 - 50 centimeters. The net bag should be sturdy, and the handle should be firm and of an appropriate length, so that it is easy to quickly scoop up the snakehead fish when it is speared or driven to a shallow area.
- Gloves: Choose waterproof, wear-resistant gloves made of rubber or nylon with a certain thickness to protect your hands from injury.
Looking for traces of snakehead fish
- Observing mud pits : Snakehead fish have the habit of hiding their bodies in the silt and only exposing their heads. Carefully observe the surface of the mud pits. If there are round or oval small protrusions, it may be where the snakehead fish is hiding.
- Finding fish holes : Snakehead fish will dig holes in the silt to live in. The entrances of the holes are usually relatively smooth, and there are some traces stirred up by the snakehead fish around them. If such fish holes are found, there is likely to be a snakehead fish nearby.
- Watching for movements : When the snakehead fish breathes, it will form small ripples or bubbles on the water surface. Pay attention to observing the movements on the surface of the silt. If there are abnormal water waves or bubbles, you can determine the position of the snakehead fish.
Skills for catching operations
- Spearing fish : After finding the snakehead fish, raise the fishing spear to a certain height, and quickly and accurately spear towards the head or the middle of the body of the snakehead fish. Once speared, firmly press down on the fishing spear to prevent the snakehead fish from struggling and escaping.
- Driving fish : You can use a long stick to slowly stir in the silt to drive the snakehead fish out of its hiding place, making it exposed in the shallow water area or on the surface of the silt, and then use the dip net or fishing spear to catch it.
- Reaching for fish : If you are sure that the snakehead fish is in a relatively shallow mud hole or small puddle, you can put on gloves and carefully reach your hand into the mud, and grab the fish along its body. Pay attention to starting from behind the head of the snakehead fish to avoid being bitten.
Follow-up treatment
- After catching the snakehead fish, use a rope or fish clip to pass through its gills or mouth to fix it and prevent it from escaping. If you want to continue catching, you can place the caught snakehead fish in a bucket or net bag far away from the catching area.
