The video gives insight to the Anschluss that involved Nazi Germany and Austria in March 1938. The Anschluss was an important event as Germany revoked the St Germain Treaty which restricted an annexation of the nations of Austria and Germany.
Adolf Hitler had always made it clear as leader of the Nazi Party that he intended to annex Austria into Nazi Germany. He believed that all German speaking people should live as one within the Reich.
Austria has suffered deeply through the great depression of the 1930's and Hitler realised the importance of Austria due to its natural resources, currency reserves and unskilled labour. At first Hitler intended to run Austria as a puppet state. However, the Austrian people welcomed Hitler and it was the Austrians enthusiasm that encouraged Hitler to complete a full annexation or Anschluss .
The Anschluss is also known as the war of the flowers as there was no conflict in creating the Anschluss . The Anchluss gave Germany significant territory and the fact that Great Britain and France did not resist the Anschluss meant that Hitler could be more daring in his next move.
