Exercises for the 8 Extraordinary Vessels
Get to know the 8 Extraordinary Vessels and how they help you
This is an exercise sequence for each of the 8 Extraordinary Vessels. It is designed to help you to get to know all eight extraordinary vessels as an interconnected group. It is a little different than the more Qi Gong based video I have put up previously (link at end) which was more about sensing the space around the Vessels and feeling them altogether. In this new video I go through a sequence focusing on a pair of Vessels and getting you to feel how they connect with the other Vessels. By doing them, I hope that you will begin to understand which are the most helpful vessels for you to work with.
I start with the Yin and Yang Stepping Vessels, which are the ones most connected to the present moment and how we adapt. They help us to regulate our nervous system and find the appropriate response in each situation. They are also about the bones of our legs and feet.
I then move onto the Yin and Yang Linking which are about how we navigate the longer transitions in our lives. Predominantly in our shoulders and upper body, they are like our wings, enabling us to open up to space but also to remember our connection to the infinite. They bring us back to our pelvis and hips, and connect us with the Girdle Vessel, which, as its name indicates, regulates everything in our pelvic area, and more. Its top is the bottom of our rib cage and its bottom is our pelvic floor.
Girdle Vessel is paired with the Penetrating Vessel which also flows in our pelvis but has a branch in our legs and is about how we draw nourishment from the earth. It also has a branch in our chest/breasts - like the inner wings of our heart. It is very much about how we nourish our heart so we can open up to others. Penetrating Vessel draws everything back to the central channel of the vertical midline between our perineum and the top of our head - Conception Vessel running up the front midline to our mouth and Governing Vessel running along our back midline, up through our head and between our eyes to our mouth.
I hope you enjoy the sequence. It gives a flavour of each vessel. I am working on videos for each Yin and Yang pair of Vessels. The longer videos are all on my YouTube channel. Link in bio. SuzanneYates@wellmother
